15001 La Coruna (Spain)
La Coruna is a port city, rich in Galician history and heritage. The treasures of La Coruna and its relaxing atmosphere are certainly worth a visit, even if it is not as famous as its neighbour, Santiago de Compostela.
Its peculiar geographical location on a sandy isthmus surrounded by the sea made it the target of many attacks throughout its two thousand years of existence.
Spectacular monuments such as the Tower of Hercules rub shoulders with pristine coves and fine-sand beaches, while the old town, north of the marina, provides a setting for long walks. In addition, it is close to estuaries and natural spaces of great beauty.
Galicia is associated with the concept of a small economy closely linked to its own natural resources, which is true, but it is also in the top positions in the national economy for some of its productive sectors such as textile (thanks, obviously to the Inditex group) , food distribution companies and the construction sector. The cost of living can be a reason of attraction for a large number of residents, businessmen, investors, urban developers, students and national tourists, but it is not enough to attract foreign expatriates. In this sense, the French-speaking community is very small in La Coruna since, due to its meteorology, it does not present very significant interests compared to other Atlantic geographical areas, and it is very rivalled by Portugal, like all Galician cities.
